The Planet of Infinite Bliss

Small Town Alien is a performative documentary that looks at how creativity plays a role in overcoming mental health issues. At the centre of this story is Jack Hookey, a Melbourne-based musician who overcames the pain of his human existence with his music, embracing the alien within him.

This short doc follows Jack from his job as an office worker to a gig later that evening. Along the way he shares his bout with a psychotic break, fending off suicide attempts and how songwriting pulled him out of the abyss.

We took an improvisational approach to the performative elements of this documentary.
